Pastor Patrick continues our Sabbath series with Part 3, Sabbath is for Others (too). Sometimes was can get caught up in thinking that Sabbath is all about just stopping from doing stuff and 100% about us. This is not the case and Jesus shows us in his actions and Sabbath worship.
Luke chapter 6 shows another slice of what the Sabbath is all about. After gleaning wheat from a field for their hunger, which the Pharisees considered work and prohibited on the Sabbath, Jesus heals a man in the Synagogue. All of these religious leaders were furious at what Jesus was doing. He was breaking the “law.”
Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?” Christ on the Sabbath did good, He saved life, He healed. This is what Sabbath is about. Finding healing, restoration, and refreshment on the Sabbath.
The Sabbath is about recognition. Recognizing who God is and where our rest comes from. Sabbath is for rest – Sabbath is for healing – Sabbath is for peace.
The Sabbath is how we start living the Big Life. How can you help someone rest this week? – While still making sure you take a sabbath too?
