This week we start a brand new series from the book of Philippians. Pastor Chris intros the series as we move into another hybrid type of teaching. Some live teaching, a short video and then discussion based conversation. This is such a great way to learn not only from the bible but also from other Christians.
Paul the author of Philippians is writing a letter from prison to the church that he helped launch in the city of Philipi. Philipi is located in the northern arch of Greece along the sea. It is a major port town with a huge mix of cultures, religions and backgrounds. But Paul actually shows up there by accident after not planning to make stop there and meets Lydia. Lydia accepts the Lord with the help of Paul and starts the first Christian church in Europe.
Paul starts his letter sending greetings and sharing his joy that he experienced when he prays for the church in Philipi and the leaders there. He tells them how he prays for them regularly and the deep love that he has for them. Paul is showing us the example of true authentic Christian community. How we are to act. The ways in which we are to love one another. And ultimately how we are to be praying for each other every day.
What might it look like for you to pray the words that Paul prayed for the people at Philipi from verses 9 thru 11? “And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.”
How would your life look different if you knew that someone was regularly praying those verses over you?
