Pastor Chris wraps up our series tackling the question of, What Now? We just celebrating the biggest event and the reason for the church, Easter but what do we do now? The Disciples had the same, “What’s next? What’s our calling?” moment after Jesus had been around for 40 days after His resurrection. But then one day as the disciples were together with Jesus, He ascended up into Heaven disappearing in the clouds. The 11 just stood there looking up into the sky. Not knowing what to do next. But thankfully 2 angels appeared and called them out. “What are you doing just looking up into the clouds? Go, you know what to do now.”
The Disciples knew the words that Jesus had previously given them as what we know as the Great Commission; to go, to train, to baptize and to instruct. Therefore the question that the 11 disciples had to wrestle with was, in who or what did they have their identity. For the past 3 years they had been a disciple of Jesus. Due to the fact now that Jesus was gone, what were they to do? Go back to their previous employment or take on the new identity and mission that Christ had commissioned them to do?
Consequently, we have to face the same question. Will we setup and take on this higher calling that Christ has placed on each and everyone of us or go back to live how we knew it before our encounter with the Living God? Will we setup and being to see the life in Christ that God has for us? Jesus in Matthew chapter 5 says, “In a word, what I’m saying is, Grow up. You’re kingdom subjects. Now live like it. Live out your God-created identity. Live generously and graciously toward others, the way God lives toward you.”
How will you live our your Higher Calling and are you willing to choose where God leads you?
