Pastor Chris puts a wrap on our “Ever’day I’m Hustlin’ series with Part 6, Saturday. Within this entire series there is a core question that has yet to be asked. One that within it flows everything about this series. That question is, “Where do you find your identity?” It is so easy to get caught up in finding our identity in what we do. This is what the world does. It tells us and gives us our identity based upon what we do. If we teach in school, we are a teacher. If we play sports we are an athlete. Everyone is given a “badge” based upon what we “do.” But the major problem with that is careers change, jobs are lost, the ability to work in a specific field is sometimes taken away from us. Or you find yourself having “put in your time” to be able to retire. Then what? Where is your identity? Paul in Colossians shares with us our never changing, always the same, everlasting identity. It doesn’t change, ever! That is your identity as the “beloved.” But what do we do with this new identity? Paul continues in chapter 2., “So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it.” Putting on love allows us to live out our identity as the “beloved” joining in the world that God is already doing. God work becomes our work. Sharing His love, living on mission that He has given us through offering our everyday-ordinary lives in worship.
